Roddy Kerr to Retire as Belk Chief Information Officer

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 26, 2010 – Belk has announced the retirement of Robert K. “Roddy” Kerr Jr. as executive vice president and chief information officer (CIO) effective on March 1, 2010, after 38 years of service to Belk.
Kerr joined the company in July 1971 as inventory control supervisor in his hometown Belk store in Mooresville, N.C., where both his grandfather and father served long careers as Belk managing partners.
Kerr worked through the management ranks of the Belk Brothers group of stores based in Charlotte over a period of 18 years before his appointment to senior vice president and director of stores for the group in March 1989. In July 1990, he was named executive vice president and supervising partner of the Belk Atlanta group of stores and served as divisional president of the group from May 1998 until June 1999, when he relocated to Charlotte upon his appointment to executive vice president of management information systems (MIS) and chief information officer at Belk Stores Services, Inc.
“Roddy has played a key role in building and strengthening our information technology infrastructure over the past ten years,” said Tim Belk, chairman and CEO of Belk, Inc. “He led a number of successful strategic initiatives that improved the efficiency and effectiveness of our information systems across all business platforms.
“In addition, prior to coming to the corporate office as CIO, Roddy provided outstanding leadership in two of our major operating groups based in Charlotte and Atlanta. Kerr is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He is also a graduate of the McCallie School in Chattanooga, and serves as Advisory Board Chairman of the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte. He and his wife, Sandra Deaton Kerr, have two grown children, Robert and Caroline, and four grandchildren.
