Kathryn Bufano Appointed Belk President and Chief Merchandising Officer

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 9, 2010 – Belk, Inc. today announced the appointment of Kathryn Bufano as president and chief merchandising officer effective on August 3, 2010. Ms. Bufano follows H.W. McKay Belk, who has elected to extend a year-long sabbatical that began last August as he transitions into his previously announced new role as vice chairman. As vice chairman, Mr. Belk will continue to provide the company advice and counsel on merchandising and vendor relations. He will also continue to serve as a member of the Belk, Inc. board of directors.
Ms. Bufano, who will continue reporting to Tim Belk, chairman and CEO, has served as Belk’s president of merchandising and marketing since joining the company in January 2008. She previously served as chief executive officer of the Vanity Shops, a 200-store juniors specialty retail chain based in Fargo, N.D. and held key executive-level merchandising posts with Sears Roebuck and Co., The Dress Barn, Macy’s East and Lord & Taylor.
